Mr Nagindas Shah known as the Father of Himachal Garlic is in garlic business for last 5 decades. M&H Enterprise is named after his 2 grandsons Mahek and Harsh Shah.

Mr Nagindas Shah started the garlic business in 1960’s where he worked closely with the garlic farmers in Gujurat and traded their produce in Mumbai. His son Mr Sunil Shah got involved in the business at an early stage and helped his father to sell the local produce in Mumbai and across southern India.

In the early 1990’s Chinese garlic was imported for the first time in India. Despite its less flavor it became an immediate success because of its big size, big clove size and price. Mr Sunil Shah partnered with multiple importers and distributed Chinese garlic pan India. During its peek he sold close to 100tons of Chinese garlic daily.

Meanwhile MrNagindas Shah visited China to understand how China produced such big Garlic. After coming back from China he identified Himachal Pradesh(a northern state in India) having similar soil and climatic conditions to Shandong province in China. He collaborated with NAFED(National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd) in providing seeds to farmers in Himachal Pradesh. The experiment was successful as the garlic harvested was big in size and had much more flavor than chinese garlic.

By early 2000’s MrNagindas was associated with more than 300 farmers and Himachal Pradesh started growing tons of big clove garlic. Government also banned Chinese garlic imports in order to support Indian farmers. MrNagindas Shah was titled “Father of Garlic” by the farmers’ association in Himachal Pradesh.

Mahek and Harsh grandson of MrNagindas Shah have taken over the legacy. Mahek is solely responsible for selling garlic pan India while Harsh closely works with the farmer’s network created by his grandfather.
